Due to excellent wind conditions and legal regulations, Poland
became one of the most promising wind energy markets in Europe.
We have plenty of potentially profitable locations and great development
possibilities.
New regulations from the Ministry of Economy oblige power utilities
and energy turnover companies to buy energy from renewable sources.
This year the limit is set at 2.5 percent of total produced and
sold energy. To fulfill this limit we must erect over 200 modern
2MW machines. To catch up with the European Union standards we
should install more than 1000MW. At the time being only 16 turbines
are installed and running in Poland.
The average wand speed in Poland varies between 5.5 and 7.0 m/s
at a height of 50 meters. Assessed productivity of one 2MW machine
may be equal to as much as 5.000 MWh per year.
The purchase obligation is supported by a renewable energy financing
mechanism. Two national funds for supporting green energy are
able to invest up to 60 percent of total project costs. Polish
and foreign companies are able to apply for soft-loans on very
attractive conditions.
